Choice Hotels have come to a decision to accept the responsibility for the environment and even more so for the global climate. Substantial focus is aimed at decreasing the use of energy. Among other things Choice Hotels feature:
Ecological breakfast at all 170 hotels in the Nordic countries. This means ecological breakfast for more than 7 million guests each year. Use of renewable and environmentally friendly energy. Oil furnaces are exchanged for soil heat. The development of Your Choice, an ecological apple Purchase of rain forest. Each bed-night means saved rain forest.
Operation Penguin
Operation Penguin is the name of a project contributing to ISO 14001-certification for all Choice Hotels. "Penguin" is our environmental management system now implemented at all our hotels in the Nordic countries. This system is established in accordance with the internationally recognized ISO-standard and "Det Norske Veritas DNV" is our certification agency.
Transport- and travel sectors cause 20% of the total emissions of greenhouse gases in the world. As the largest hotel chain in the Nordic countries, Choice Hotels Scandinavia AS is part of the problem! We will, however, also become part of the solution! Choice is willing to take the responsibility and show great ambition to improve our environment. For many years we have worked hard to decrease the use of energy, water and chemicals.
ISO-certification will strengthen our environmental commitment even more. There are several approved systems used to document environmental work and Choice Hotels have chosen the internationally recognized ISO 14001 which corresponds very well with the visions and measures we intend to carry out. Important keywords for the ISO-standard are continuity and improvement and our environmental management is based on a dynamic and ambitious work. November 2007 Choice concluded an agreement with "Det Norske Veritas" our certification agency.
